Monolithe du Outaouais
While picking up my husband after a course across the river at Asticou Centre in Gatineau, Quebec, my Adventure Buddy and I discovered this striking piece of work. Or shall I say three. On another section of Asticou altogether, the Vocational Training Centre of Ottawa can be found where there are actually three complete sculptures grouped together, each representational of the trades.
Canada, like many other nations, has a definite shortage of tradespeople, and in fact the shortfall has been estimated at approximately 50,000 unfilled jobs come the end of this year. So it is here, at the training centre, where men and women of all ages learn a skilled trade such as welding, carpentry, bricklaying, heavy duty mechanics, plumbing and heating only to name a few. So, if you happen to know of a skilled and certified tradesperson looking to make a fresh start, this might just be their ticket to opportunity here in Canada.

An impressive piece of art indeed. Looks like a cross between Stonehenge and a croquet loop. Great fun for the littlies to run around I'm sure.
Cheers,
