The Watcher
Displayed throughout the community, public art can be found in the form of paintings, photographs and sculpture. For this fact I am oh, so grateful! New life is given to the artwork itself and essentially, to the artists who have shared their vision with each new generation.
The sculpture pictured above is entitled "The Watcher", a name quite befitting considering its' home on this hill, safe-guarding the nearby residents. In 1971, the piece was created by then 18-year-old artist Glenn Patterson, and presented to William Teron Esq. the creator of the town of Kanata, and to the residents of the Beaverbrook Community. As this sculpture is down the road from a high school, I think it also speaks volumes to youth directly (if they read the plaque!), reinforcing the message that you can accomplish anything and achieve your goals, with a positive mind-set.
