Our New Governor General
Please let me introduce the humble, the Right Honourable David Lloyd Johnston, Canada's 28th Governor General. Appointed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, he was selected to succeed Michaëlle Jean after her 5-year term. The position itself reinforces Canada's link to the Commonwealth and, in accepting the position, the Governor General acts on the behalf of the Queen, fulfilling her sovereign constitutional duties in here Canada. After the induction ceremonies this afternoon, the Right Honourable Professor Johnston and his wife Sharon will have a bit of time to get comfortable in their new home at Rideau Hall.
