Take Me Out to the Ol' Ball Game...
Did you know that Ottawa has a semi-pro baseball team? Well, we do! The Ottawa Fat Cats provide a refreshing and innocent family experience. This is their first season, and, by how few spectators there were, I'm not sure if even many locals know about them! The stadium can hold more than 10,000 spectators, but sadly I don't think there were even 1,500 fans in attendance. I suppose that's what happens when so many people escape the scorching 37ºC city at the weekends.
It made me remember when my brother and I used to go to Trappers games in Edmonton, and then hang out afterwards to get the balls signed. Now 25 years later, we hung around so the boys could run the bases. Will they remember this day of simple family fun when they have kids of their own? I sure do hope so.
