Feel Red, See Blue but... Think Green!
With Canada Day now over, I thought I'd mention the environmental awareness program that coincided with the Festivities. Everywhere in Jacques-Cartier Park, visitors were led down a different path: one to raise awareness of the environmental impact we are having on the Earth – and at large-scale venues like these festivals. There's nothing like speaking to a listening crowd, especially one saturated with youngsters!
They grabbed our – children's – attention with the percussion instruments (old pots & pans banged with stained wooden spoons), the interactive synthesizer (solar panel-rigged, water-driven recycled pipes), and the ingenious sculptures (made from empty plastic water bottles). As well, there were these charming gals in their innovative costumes made 100% from recycled materials like TP tubes and old tarp. A huge success, this new take on environmental education, and I'm hoping bits & pieces get instilled at other festivals as well.
