Resonance
This past weekend, the entire country celebrated the arts and culture with Culture Days. Knowing that many happenings were on the agenda at Shenkman Arts Centre in Orleans, I headed East. Designed as an efficient community-based performing arts centre, the $25 million building has an approximate floor area of 8,000 square metres (86,000 square feet) and is home to 5 galleries, 2 theaters, a theatre school, the Ottawa School of Art, Gloucester Pottery School, MIFO and the AOE Arts Council. This unique sculpture of bronze, stainless steel and limestone by Maskull Lasserre can be found at the entrance and really sets the stage – literally – for the creativity that blossoms indoors, beyond that vibrant rainbow of window panes.

What an interesting sculpture with a combination of piano and stone. What Mr. Lasserre wants to tell us?
