Onward and Upward
Like some of you, I, too had never seen the Locks in action. There are 24 Lockstations on the 202 km Rideau Canal. And on this particular day our timing was perfect, as we had an opportunity to see how boats are able to travel from one body of water to another via this relatively slow and complex system of the Ottawa Locks. Yet, according to my Husband the Sailor, they were moving fairly quickly. Each of the 8 sections took approximately 10 minutes to fill, before the crew would open the gate to allow the boats to proceed onward and upward – quite literally. And boy, what a view!
