The Colours of Easter
Understanding that not everyone celebrates the holiday, please let me explain how it is in our household. Easter, for us, is generally a secular celebration, filled with brightly-coloured eggs, chocolate Easter Bunnies and packets of sweet treats. The Easter Bunny comes for a visit and (after eating a healthy midnight snack of milk, radishes and carrots) hides the eggs around the house and in the yard. At the end of the early-morning egg hunt, the children find a basket filled with sweets and little presents (useful things like erasers for school, popular books of the time, or Lego (yes!) to construct while I make the celebration evening meal to be shared later on with friends and/or family).
Attending a Catholic School they are well aware of the spiritual significance of the day, but we choose to keep it light. For now. Or rather, at least until they can sit still long enough to listen to an hour-long liturgy.
