The Art of Papal Rome
On Monday this grand exhibit will come to a close. "Religious art" is so beautiful in all its detail and vibrantly pure colour, but is so heavily weighted that it is difficult to feel uplifted at all. Sorry, Raphael. The National Gallery had high hopes for attendance this summer, hoping to draw in record crowds. Unfortunately, the visitor count was down a painful 30%. This in turn, means that 11 employees of the Gallery have lost their jobs and there is not going to be another major exhibit this winter. When the larger venues are hitting tough times, one can only imagine the state of the smaller, local galleries. So here's my plea for everyone to support your local community of artists – their works affect every aspect of your life, and probably don't even realize it.

Nice photo, and interesting to read...
I agree, we should support up on positive things at (ART)museums.

Religious art is not really my favorite, but I would expect Raphael to draw in big crowds. I guess you can tell it's been a crisis year.
