Introducing Jean Pigott
Bernard Poulin's painting of determined Jean Pigott can be found in the foyer of the Ottawa City Hall. As lone as she stands, ironically enough, the painting is situated on its own as well. This stern-looking woman is a former businessperson and high-ranking politician, whose family has lived in the Ottawa Valley for four generations. Pigott became President and CEO of her family business, and was actually one of only 3 CEO's in all of Canada in the early 1970's. An inspiration to women and girls everywhere, Pigott has served the community well through her position as a Member of Parliament, advisor to the Prime Minister, Chair of the National Capital Commission, to sitting on the Board of many large corporations. In 1995, she was made and Officer in the Order of Canada for her having "... shown leadership and determination in ensuring the use of resources for positive growth and change at all levels of government".
