Not Everything is Always As It Seems
When in Manotick the other day, I decided to explore a little bit – you know me! – and came across this "ancient" stone wall. I was completely enthralled with the structure, drumming up a story in my head about the ancient peoples who lived and worshipped here (note the Star of David on the turret). What I found even more intriguing was how carefully the "newer" structure was married to the wall.
As it turns out, the home itself (white building on the left) is the older, historically significant structure and the wall was built over a 15 year period beginning only in 1961! The house itself was built around 1870, and until 1944 was Manotick's first home-based, undertaking business. Horses, buggies and hearst were kept out back, somewhere beyond the stone wall, all ready and waiting. In 2005, the owners of the home received approval for the house (not the wall) to be designated for its significant cultural heritage.

Your story made me smile. But old or new, the stonework is beautiful!
Wonderful stone wall. It's worth to conserve and to maintain.
