Is it the Beginning or the End?
An engineering feat and man-made marvel, the Rideau Canal is the oldest continuously operated waterway in North America and works as much as it did when first opened in 1832. The waterway, an idea devised by Colonel John By, is 202 km long, only 5 feet deep, and runs from Kingston to Ottawa bridging Lake Ontario and the Ottawa River. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the natural beauty surrounding the Canal is breathtaking any time of year whether you visit by boat, car, bicycle or on foot.
