A Real Balancing Act
So you think you have it tough trying to balance it all? Well this fellow, 60 year-young eco-artist John Félice Céprano, is fighting against Mother Nature (as well as vandals, unfortunately) here at Remic Rapids with his sculptural installation using locally found 400-million year-old limestone. "My goal is to get people reconnected with nature and the environment," he says. Since 1986 Céprano has been exploring the use of natural, unaltered rock which eventually led him to create these mystical rock sculptures in the Ottawa River. By sheer fact of climate, each winter Mother Nature dismantles his hard work and in the spring he makes a fresh start to the gallery. All of the sculptures are constructed entirely by hand, only occasionally does he require assistance to move the larger pieces. Céprano's Art of Balance is painstakingly crucial and admired by both tourists and locals alike.
