Located near the Portage Bridge near the Chaudiére Falls area, is this magnificent old mill. It was built in 1850 (architect unknown) thanks to the funding of former New Yorker H.F. Bronson who had the brilliant and convenient idea to harness power from the Falls and essentially gave birth to the lumber industry in the area. All along the waterway around this time period, the entrepreneurial spirit took hold of many men who took advantage of the nearby white-pine forests and fast-moving water to build their own financial empires.
Presently the building is vacant, but most recently was The Mill Restaurant. In 1973 the National Capital Commission awarded architect A.J. Capling the Award of Excellence for Architectural Preservation.
