A Hidden Discovery
We were driving through Cyrvilla Industrial Park in the east end of Ottawa (called Gloucester), and I saw, strangely enough, a church steeple. Following my instinct (as I do so well these days), I drove towards it. There, in the hub of industry and a few homes (!), stands Senhor Santo Cristo Church, a Portugese parish honouring the 16th century "miracle man" of the same name. Although there weren't any statues devoted to him on the parish grounds, I did manage to discover this colourful grotto celebrating Mother Mary situated behind the Church.
Approximately 4% of Ottawa's population is of Portugese heritage, who celebrate on the fifth Sunday after Easter, the Festival of Senhor Santo Cristo. To read more about the miracles of Senhor Santo Cristo on the web, go to: http://www.ourladyoffatimachurch.net/santocristo_english.html
