Anti-Smut
Seem to be striking a "country" theme so I may as well roll with it. Or rock, perhaps? The photo is obviously an aged piece of farm equipment, used many years ago to treat wheat seeds in the fight against fungus and disease, specifically smut. For over 300 years this process has been occurring in various parts of the world. Farmers have tried soaking the seeds in everything from urine to lye to hot water to mercury in the "good fight". Now, of course, chemicals are the "hero". I like the graphic qualities of this piece of equipment, but not necessarily the story behind it. But that's another blog entry....
